Keerimale (Keerimalai) is a natural spring located next to the sea west of Palaly. A bathing tank is built around the pool and only the walls separate the water of the spring and sea. Although the tank is so close to the sea, the water is fresh from an underground freshwater spring at Telepallai-Maviddapuram. The water is not hot.
It is said that this underwater source connects to the Nilavarai bottom well which is 10 km away from here. This spring has become popular among Hindus for its miraculous powers. According to local legends in Keerimale, the Pandyan princess Maruthupura Weerawalli built a Hindu temple in Kirimale when she healed her horse-shaped head after bathing in Keerimale.
How to get there
Take the Palaly Road from Jaffna. Contact Kirimale locals or any army checkpoint. This is a very popular place and now the given roads are open. If you like a peaceful bath, there are plenty of buses arriving there in the afternoon as you have to go in the morning.
